During my tenure at Cesar Chavez Academy and while pursuing the School Leadership Program at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, I delved into the notion of culturally responsive schools and examined how school leaders can foster stakeholder unity to establish a culturally responsive school environment.

According to Dr. Khalifa Muhammad, the concept of "Culturally Responsive School Leadership" revolves around the strategies employed by school leaders to effectively support minoritized students, who have historically faced marginalization both within educational institutions and society at large.

 

School leaders can creating culturally responsive schools by hiring culturally proficient staff as well as offering professional opportunities that enhance staff members' cultural competence and understanding of diverse backgrounds. They must also offer an inclusive curriculum and inclusive instruction that reflects the experiences, histories and perspectives of diverse student populations. Promote community engagements by creating strong partnership with families and community leaders. Setting equitable policies and practices which eliminiate bias, discrimination and inequities. They must safeguard and create inclusive spaces that allow for failures and growth and ultimately allow time and spaces for reflection and evaluation from all stakeholders.
